The Ian Lewis Character Scholarship was established in 2021. It is designed to highlight and celebrate some of Ian’s traits and his outlook on what makes a team. Having a positive attitude, helping to integrate new players into the team, uniting people, especially during tough times, being a loyal friend, and standing up for teammates and friends when necessary are some of the criteria the scholarship is based on. The scholarship is awarded annually to a male and a female senior Wake Forest High School soccer player who embodies some or all of those qualities. The recipients are not necessarily the “leaders” of the team, but are often the heart of the team, and in essence do lead by their example.
The initial scholarship award was $1000. It is presently at $1500. The scholarship committee’s goal is to grow the scholarship into an award that can have a big impact on a students’ future and help set them on a path to make positive impacts on other people’s lives.
The scholarship was placed with North Carolina Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in 2022. NCCF is an endowment fund that allows the Ian Lewis Character Scholarship to live in perpetuity
